Affiliate Marketing A to Z

September 13, 2008

I have been asked for a “Affiliate Marketing for Dummies” so I thought I would start with a simple A-Z….

A = Affiliate = an affiliate promotes other people’s products for commission.
B = BUM = BUM marketing is free and so simple any “BUM” off the street could make money – make money online with NO money
C = Clickbank = a popular Affiliate Network acting as a payment processor for electronic products – Clickbank Guide
D = Digg = Digg.com is a social bookmarking site which is useful for promoting your sites and building backlinks
E= EPC = Earning Per Click is a key measure of success particularly when using Adsense
F = Forex = Foreign Exchange – where I make most of my affiliate money – The Forex Niche
G = Google = Google has the biggest share of search engine traffic and ranking well is key to free organic traffic
H = HTML = HyperText Markup Language is the most common website language
I = Internet = I think we all know what this is!
J = Javascript = a web development code used to create more dynamic html websites
K = Keywords = these are the single most important part of affiliate marketing whether you are doing BUM Marketing or PPC (see below)
L = Landing Page = these are used as a way to pre-sell a product before the visitor reaches the sales page. They can be used in BUM or PPC marketing. A good Landing Page could significantly improve conversion rate.
M = MMO = Make Money Online is often used as a way to describe this particular Niche
N = Niche = A niche market is a narrowly defined group of potential customers with little competition. Also see Nichechoppers.com the amazing affiliate marketing community – I’m am known as JIMZ there.
O = Offline = Many affiliates successfully combine offline marketing with landing pages by advertising their websites in the press, on the radio, via leaflets
P = PPC = Pay Per Click is a general term for traffic which is derived from search engine advertising such as Google Adwords, MSN adCentre etc
Q = Quality Score = Google Adwords not only uses a highest bid system for determining the cost you pay per click they also use a mystical “quality score” for your landing page/website.
R = Robots = All search engines use robots to crawl websites and gather information on the content and links
S = SEO = Search Engine Optimization is huge business and is the practice of improving a website’s SERP (Search Engine Results Page) position with links, content, tags etc
T = Tags = html websites are based on tags which are surrounded by <> ie.
U = UBD = Unique Blog Designs who created my blog template
V = Viral = this is the term given to the organic spread of a product/campaign over the internet
W = Wordpress = a blogging platform available for free with hosting at wordpress.com or as a download to your own hosted blog at wordpress.org
X = Xmas = another word for Christmas! Well can you think of an X?
Y = YouTube = video hosting site which allows text and links to landing pages, the latest viral marketing tool for BUM Marketers
Z = Zilz = My Family

To be honest there were several options for most of these letters so I think a full “Affiliate Marketing for Dummies” could be a good idea.
